In a context where citizen participation in community development is desired, how can we hope for a higher level of engagement than being inhabited by one's city? Inhabited by nature, inhabited by the arts, inhabited by culture, inhabited by diversity—'Inhabited by my city' is a call for citizens to invest themselves and live in harmony with their environment. Understanding and knowing what drives citizens has been the guiding principle throughout the strategic planning process. This is why we have used dialogue boxes as graphic elements to frame discussions between the city and its residents.
To promote the city's aspirations and ensure citizen engagement, we chose to feature real faces of actual citizens rather than using actors. Young and old, representing all generations and cultural diversity, candidates were carefully selected to accurately reflect the community of Vaudreuil-Dorion.
This 48-page document presents the strategic planning process as a framework allowing the City to establish a vision and aspirations. The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion has reached a point in its development where it became opportune to take time for reflection to define a mission and vision that will reflect its reality.
It's all well and good to develop a plan for the next 5 years, but if it's not known to the citizens, it's simply a futile effort. To ensure that the project is embraced by the entire population, presentation materials, promotional posters, social media posts, and an animated video were created to support the launch of the 2020-2025 strategic planning.
